Coroner Says Alexander McQueen Was Found Hanged — Suicide Note Found

It has been reported that fashion mogul Alexander McQueen had hung himself in his London apartment in his wardrobe. There was also a suicide note left behind.

Coroners officer, Lynda Martindill said that McQueen, 40, was found dead last Thursday, The cause: asphyxia and hanging. The death had been ruled “nonsuspicious,” according to Martindill.

“The coroner said a note had been found and is being looked at by the police,” Martindill said, without offering details about the note. The coroner adjourned the inquest until April 28 in order to complete the full post-mortem report, she said.

McQueen reportedly killed himself nine days after the death of his mother. He had been Twittering his grieving leading up to the days of his own death.

Lady Gaga, one of the many stars McQueen has dressed, dedicated her performance at Tuesday night’s BRIT Awards in London to him.

In October, he spoke about changing the nature of runway shows for fashion designers with CNN’s Jim Bittermann:

“It’s got to progress and it’s got to move on,” he said. “I’ve been doing these shows for over 15 years now; I must have done about 60 shows. Even I get bored with the same concept, so this way, I can see a brighter future for fashion.”
